Sunflower Veterinary Clinic is truly striving to “care for the Kingdom, one creature at a time.” Located in a single room in the farmhouse at Sunflower Farm, one of the most important characteristics of the clinic is its non-clinical, non-threatening environment. When pets come in the door at Sunflower, they feel like they are stepping into a home (which they are), not a veterinary clinic. Their visit can even be accomplished outside on the front porch or in the front yard, if they prefer and weather permitting. The whole idea is that our animals are not afraid to “come to the vet.” With plenty of outdoor area to stroll and sniff (on a leash, of course) and with horses and chickens to visit, it is hoped that the whole experience can be a positive one for both pet and owner.
Our services reflect our integrative blend of both conventional and alternative medicine.
- A “vet minute” clinic is designed to be an easier way to tend to the simple things that occur in the day to day care of a pet – ear infections, eyes that hurt, nails that get torn, skin infections, minor wounds, and many others.
- Regular health checkups, including routine vaccinations, parasite checks, heart worm testing and prevention, flea/tick prevention, and lab work when needed, can be done without the stress of going to a busy veterinary hospital.
At the same time, Dr. Odom is trained in several alternative modalities, including classical homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture (for all species from pets to farm animals), massage therapy, and Western herbal medicine. Sometimes just a simple diet change can make a huge difference in a pet’s well-being. For many pets that have chronic disease or that are struggling with the changes that come as they age, conventional medicine may no longer be helping enough or new answers are needed. Sometimes adding a complementary therapy such as acupuncture or herbs can improve their quality of life and even extend their life. Alternative modalities often require consulting time to get a thorough history and create a treatment plan, and appointments need to be scheduled for these visits allowing plenty of time. It is not uncommon for an acupuncture appointment to last an hour or more.
Because of the small space, Sunflower does not at this time have radiology (X-ray) or surgical service (beyond minor wound repairs). If your pet has a medical emergency, please go to the nearest animal emergency facility or full service veterinary hospital. For spay/neuter, please choose a spay/neuter clinic or animal hospital of your choice.
We look forward to meeting you and your animals, and hope you enjoy your visit to Sunflower Farm’s veterinary clinic.
