Welcome to Sunflower Farm!

Sunflower Farm is going to be for sale! Due to some ongoing health issues, Dr. Odom is moving home to Colorado to be with her daughter this summer! Always a fan of “Rocky Mountain High,” Dr. Odom will be in Ft. Collins, home of Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and near Rocky Mountain National Park.  Many miracles have preceded this move toward retirement, and all of the beautiful sheep found homes (nobody got eaten!). All four guard donkeys got to stay together. The rams have a new homestead to do what they do best – make more dairy sheep. All the beautiful Pyrenees guard dogs found homes in pairs to guard their sheep. Even the hens all found a home together.  Sweet Louise, our mama Great Pyrenees,  found a special home with a family who needed her to console their other Pyrenees when his companion passed away recently. The irascible macaw Sampson is flying free at a parrot rescue — something he’d never gotten to do in his whole life. Dr. Odom’s  two  horses, Maisie the Haflinger and Sheba the paint, will be going to Colorado also, as will Pippi and Rye, her two Border collies. 

I want to THANK everyone who has made the past nine years the best of my life; my huge team of farm helpers who have jumped in during crises (and to Tim, my faithful “farmhand” who found me during this crisis and saved my life), those who have farm sat for me to go continuing education, fed and watered everyone (especially after the “sheep blizzard” doubled the flock.) For all of my veterinary technicians who also came to help, and to Ideal Pet Care for finishing spaying my female dogs (and kept them at the clinic while they healed from surgery)  My neighbors who accepted me (not a Fountain, in Fountaintown!) and my clients who have been faithful to Sunflower Veterinary Clinic at the Farm. And my three daughters who made many trips from Hampstead and Wilmington, and who came from Colorado,  during the last several months to care for me and organize finding homes for the animals.  What an incredible huge family of people God gave me as a huge gift during this time of my life. 

One of my grandson’s is calling this the “Season Finale,” and there is an Epilogue to come as I settle into life with my daughter in Colorado.  But don’t go too far – with two equine therapy horses in tow, and a beautiful place to board them, as well as the new therapy laser, healing and and an entertwined “retirement” will be coming.  “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord; plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11. Keep an eye on the website as we modify and keep you up to date.

ALSO, Sunflower Veterinary Clinic and Integrative Animal Health Service will be closing as of July 31, 2026.  I will still be available by text (or phone) to get your records to you as needed and will let you know of any changes in phone numbers, email, etc. by phone message and/or this website. Sunflower Farm is home to a variety of farm animals, some of whom are rescues, and all with a purpose; a veterinary clinic with VetMinute services and integrative animal health;  and a new Equine Assisted Learning Center in Chinquapin, North Carolina.

Dr. Odom, or “Dr. O” as she is often called, specializes in making you and your animal feel at home.

SHEEP!!! Sunflower Farm had a sheep blizzard during the blizzard! We now have, for the first time, beautiful dairy ram lambs for sale.  East Friesen x Katahdin, some are white and some are beautifully colored black and white.  Both the grandsire and sires are on site.  These are not meat sheep, but were bred specifically to provide homesteads who might be interested with the beginnings of a dairy flock.  Reserve your “foundation sire” ram lamb  now; they will be vetted by Dr. Odom and ready to go to their new pastures in May and meet their ewes and begin your flock come Fall.  $300 ea.
